Swimming pool at vacation home, bad idea?

February 17th, 2010 | by admin |

Considering installing an inground pool in a vacation home that is visited 2-3 weekends a month, more during summers. The property is on 3 acres in the country. Would like advice on potential problems, especially for a property that is not a permanent home.
I am concerned about the maintenance on the pool as I have never had one.

they are a lot of work. hire someone to clean and check your pool on a weekly basis and put a fence around it . check local laws .

Around here a pool would be invaded by ducks and geese in just a day or two. Maintenance issues could be dealt with but you may have trespassers with families that would sue if anything went wrong.

I think you would want to put a fence around it to prevent animals and/or even children or neighbors from deciding to take a dip in your absence. But having a pool to use at a vacation home sounds like a wonderful idea to me, and it also sounds like your family uses it A LOT, almost every weekend. It wouldn’t hurt to Invest in a good security system for your property, and, if possible, make the acquaintance of one of your neighbors and ask them to keep an eye out when you’re not there. You could repay the neighbor by inviting him/her over for a cookout at the pool once in a while.
