talk to a real estate agent in the Dallas area – every town, county and state could have different property and school tax rates

At http://appraisaldistrict.net/ you can search by texas county, city or zip code to find appraisal districts. They will give you rates on property taxes for that particular city. The Dallas appriasal district might also help. Their address is http://www.dallascad.org

Property taxes are either levied by the county or by the city/village, it depends on the state. Look up "assessor" and see where their website is for the town/city/county you are considering. They will have the total tax rate (sometimes called the millage rate) posted, make sure it is inclusive of all rates (city & school). You then multiply that rate to the assessed value of the house and you have the tax amount for that year. Remember, the amount of taxes paid is based on the assessed value of the home. The more expensive homes will have a higher total so compare homes of equal value in order to get a good overall view across the board.
Zillow.com has some good info, and satellite pics too.
