What is the best way to approach it if you believe that a ‘friend’ has stolen property from your home?

I sell cards on eBay (Magic: the Gathering). I’m not a business, just selling off my collection of older cards. I had some friends over on Sunday, and showed them my cards that were up for auction. Two days later, a buyer askes for a more detailed scan of a card. When I go to scan the card, the card is missing. I check the rest of the stacks, and find that 4 more cards are missing, including 2 that I specifically pointed out to them as being perticularly valuable. They don’t play Magic, and until this point I trusted them implicitly. What is the best way to handle this without a) losing the friendship if they’re innocent, or b) losing the cards if they’re guilty. We’ve searched the whole house top to bottom, and at this point, I’m fairly certain they took the cards.

Try asking ur friends if anyone had seen the cards or if they had taken them accidentally and tell them that the cards were missing and if still then they dont tell anything or if u feel anyone is acting suspiciously just go to their house when they r not expecting u ang check the house 4 ur cards not letting them know what ur doing .If u still dont get the cards forget them or if u strongly feel that one of ur friends has taken it tell them that u suspect them of stealing the cards if they r ur friends they will help u find the cards .

I think you would have to say something to them like…..did you see what happened to the card I showed you on Sunday because after you left I looked everywhere and I can’t find it. I thought maybe by mistake you took it with you. Then depending on their expression and body language you’ll probably be able to tell. If they deny taking it you won’t be able to accuse them because they’ll just deny it, but I would immediately sever the relationship.

I am sure they won’t admit it. You need to stop having them over.

I would ask if they have seen what you are missing. Say where you last saw it and perhaps say that you saw them with it? I guess it depends on how important the cards are to you, how close you are to your friend, and if the cards are worth possibly losing a friend of it.
