Does property taxes come directly out of pocket or are they included in monthly mortgage payments?
March 9th, 2010 | by admin |I am a first time home buyer and I am searching for properties. I was wondering about property taxes and if they have to be paid in installments from the buyers pocket or are the taxes already included in the monthly mortgage payments?
Here’s the deal – unless you stipulate in the contract that you will provide your own homeowners insurance and property tax, the mortgagor (Bank) will gladly loan you the money, and add it to your mortgage – This is their biggest money maker, as you’re paying interest on this amount for the entire length of the loan (25/30/35 years) But on the second year, you are expected to pay your own insurance and property tax, or open an escrow account just to have these funds available for when the tax and insurance is due.

it depends on your lender. most banks make you include the insurance premiums in your mtg payment.

Most lenders will set up an escrow account that will hold your taxes and insurance payments. Part of your monthly mortgage payment will be sent to this account.
Some do not do it this way, and you will get a monthly or quarterly insurance bill that you have to pay on your own. And, your tax bill will come twice a year.
