Do I have to pay sales tax on mobile home from my dad’s estate?

February 23rd, 2010 | by admin |

My father had a mobile home in Fl and I am one of the heirs. My siblings have agreed on a cash sum to buy out their interests. Do I have to pay a sales tax on this type of transaction? Do I even need anything more than their agreements to waive property rights, to get a title to the mobile home, and my name on the 99 year lease?
I need advice on the fastest, most economical route.
I don’t live in Florida. I’m in Michigan.

I’m sure the laws vary from state to state. I live in Ky. and here you would be responsible for the property taxes on the home. If you’re keeping the home you’re not really selling it so there should be no sales tax. There will be a fee to transfer it into your name of course but with you being in Florida I can’t even give you a ball park figure. It would be a good idea to call your local court house to get a better idea about things. I think the PVA office could give you the answers you need. (property value admin.)

Being unfamiliar with Florida state law, I would direct you to contact your local county clerk. They may be able to give you the answers you are looking for. Other than that just about any Manufactured home dealer in your area should also be well versed in the laws concerning Mobile home purchases.
