What do I need to do to build a rental home on my property.?
November 4th, 2010 | by admin |I have 10 acres in Idaho that I live on, but I would like to build a small rental home for some extra income. My property has two wells, two separate power boxes, and two addresses: one for my house and a second for a garage that I own. Can I tie into the Garage setup to build a house and what legal steps do I need to take before I can rent to someone? Do I need a renters licence?
Thank you
You will need to get the proper building permits to build any structure on the property. If everything is built up to code & you have a proper Certificate of occupancy then, turning it into a rental does not require any extra steps in most areas. You would need to check with your county to see if any separate permit is needed. You will need a separate insurance policy for the rental.

Check with the city or the county to see if you need permits.
A renter’s license if very rare in the US.
