Why when black people move into the neighbor the home prices go down.?

January 2nd, 2011 | by admin |

I am not trying to be racist but when people come to see my property, they see them hanging outside every hour of the night and day and say that they don’t like the area.
The area is great near highway, transit (two bus lines at door steps), schools, a major park etc.
sorry if i offended anyone, i didn’t mean to be racist. but some people do stay out all day and play dice and smell like they have been smoking weed

That’s ridiculous. Every race has good people and trash. Sounds like you have trash for neighbors. That sucks, but there isn’t anything you can do.

Its not your neighbors, it’s the location. "The first rule of real estate is location, location, location."

I would not want to live near a highway b/c of the noise. And some major parks are known to have issues with drugs.

My suggestion is to make your place sparkle. We’ve even got notes from realtors stating that Neighbor X is selling and everyone will be looking at our area, so please show it off, or words to the effect that appearances are important.

the problem is not black people the problem is the the neighbourhood who wants to live near a busy high way lets be real its like living on the streets of course your going to see black people hanging outside its not the sub burn or any private property like u said its near the high way. I hope this answers your question not because your house is near the high way doesnt mean the prices goes up your house is not located in a business are for example Manhattan New York then your price will go up black people or no black people wink .

I am sure the property values of the houses that Will Smith, Magic Johnson and Shaq or Michael Jordan did not go down when they bought their homes and moved into their neighborhood.

So your broad sweeping statement about black people is just that and could be considered a racist remark as your statement seem to indicate all black people.

There are some very affluent black people living in the United States that reside in multi-million dollar homes or even in the upper $500,000 range that do not bring property values down by them residing there.

Also you will find that no one is hanging out on the corners in these neighborhoods.

Perhaps this is a result of the area in which you purchased your house as oppose to who is living there.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

It’s not black people, per se. It has much to do with minorities. I grew up in Lawrence, MA – an old mill town surrounded by gorgeous, affluent White towns. In the early 80s, it was almost all white. My family are Latinos, and they moved in from NYC because NYC is the late 70s, early 80s was a crime-ridden place. Lawrence was a city of immigrants – mostly Irish and Italian – So we went, my parents bought homes and we lived our lives – and a sea of other NYCers moved there from their respective Caribbean Islands and elsewhere. For a better life.

The problem is not minorities per se, it’s that immigrants usually earn less than people that know the American culture/education/language well (unless they open and run successful business over the span of a decade or so). Earning less affords less accumulation of goods and less upgrades to homes – so decay appears more prevalent. Add on top of that the need for many families to have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet (since less education usually means a lower paying job) – and you an see whole neighborhoods just doing the best with what they have. It happens in less affluent white neighborhoods too.

Family Guy: "it doesn’t matter if you are black or white, the only color that matters, is green".
