Can I move within a zip code in CA and keep my property tax basis?

March 21st, 2010 | by admin |

We’re thinking of moving within the same area in Northern California (SF Peninsula), literally within blocks of our current residence, and were wondering if there is any property tax break for moving within the same zip code…
Rationale: our immediate neighborhood is not the best, but a few blocks away it’s much more family friendly. However, the home prices are in the 1M + arena, and the property taxes would kill us on a yearly basis. We could remodel, and have been thinking of it, but our neighborhood is giving us some serious misgivings for doing as such. Any advice would be appreciated (before sitting down and talking with a hungry real estate agent) Thanks!

Im a hungry real estate agent or REALTOR. If you move than yes you will have a new property tax. If you want to keep your same property tax than dont move orrrrrrr …….. you can transfer the property to your children if they are old enough. So send the neighbor a case of his favorite wine or beverage and start remodeling.
Any more questions please ask.
