California property tax when u buy a home?
March 23rd, 2010 | by admin |Property Tax question?
I bought my home in June 07, the previous owner got the property for 525k and i bought it for 350k from the bank. My tax bill is for the 525k (6589.90). I also had an supplemental assessment for the difference of 525k-350k. For the 2008 year tax bill will my bill be less, reflect my purchase price of 350k or do i still have to pay the 525k tax bill?
Call the county assessor’s office. It could be that they mistakenly think that the house was previously 350k, and you bought it for 525k, which would be the situation they’re used to. I see no reason for the supplemental assessment, unless it was a refund.
I’m sure they can straighten things out.

All counties have an appeal process for tax assessments. You need to find out the procedure and appeal your assessment.
