Is this a shady home appraisal?

March 3rd, 2010 | by admin |

Every home appraisal I have ever had the appraiser comes in the house and around the property and takes measurements and asks about updates (for a refinance).

Well can a home appraiser just do a drive by and take a picture and never go inside of the house or take measurement and see what if anything has ever been updated on it? What kind of action other then demanding the mortgage company take responsibility for this home appraiser in my opinion doing a half ass home appraisal?
So even if you pay 500 dollars for a appraisal that is what a drive by appraisal goes for now a days?

That is shady. The appraisal you describe costs $125. The bank just wants to know that there really is a house on the land (for a drive by).
Ask for your money to be refunded..

you are not correct sir. Some times the findings from underwriting just call for a drive by appraisal and the price is cheaper than a full appraisal
I am a mortgage banker in TN & KY
